Felons Sustainability National Recycling Week

IT'S NATIONAL RECYCLING WEEK!

November 13th-19th

In celebration of National Recycling Week we're lifting the (bin) lid on our recycling scorecard here at Felons!

Since opening our doors in 2018, we've been focused on keeping the amount of waste leaving the site as low as possible, through various recycling initiatives, including composting over 50% of all food waste.

Using 17 different waste streams, we are proud to have diverted over 93% of all waste from landfill in the past year - that's roughly 100-150 tonnes per month!

Check out some of our recycling initiatives below:

GLASS

All glass is sent to an off-site facility

CARBOARD

All cardboard is collected & turned into new boxes using our high capacity cardboard baler on-site.

CANS &
TINS

All food tins are crushed and baled on site, before being collected for specialised recycling.

COOKING
OIL

In the kitchen, our chefs recycle 118,000L of cooking oil a year that is collected from the site and made into renewable biofuel.

COFFEE
CUPS

Coffee and ice cream cups are recycled through the Simply Cups program. Considered to be contaminants in the co-mingled recycling stream, Simply Cups supports an innovative Australian recycling program.

OYSTER
SHELLS

We save all our oyster shells and donate them to the amazing volunteers from the Moreton Bay Shellfish Reef restoration team, where they assist in rejuvenating aquatic life, improving fishing and seagrass habitat and returning the Bay back to its former glory.

ORGANIC
WASTE

Compostable waste such as green waste, paper straws & wine corks are sent to Nugrow, Queensland’s leading recycling and regeneration scientists, and turned into valuable compost.

CO-MINGLED
WASTE

Materials such as e-waste, batteries, soft plastics & containers are collected separately for specialised recycling.
