FELONS x WOMEN'S LEGAL SERVICE QLD

This International Women's Day, our rockstar brewer, Sylvia, lead an all-female brew day for our limited release, Belgian Amber Ale.

Brewed in partnership with the team at Womens Legal Service Queensland (WLSQ), this female-empowered beer supports women in Queensland impacted by domestic violence.

Donating 100% of Belgian Amber Ale profits to WLSQ, we’re proud to share that we’ve raised a total of $4,068! These funds will go directly to supporting WLSQ services & upgrades to the WLSQ Statewide Helpline.

ABOUT WLSQ

As Queensland’s only state-wide community legal centre, WLSQ provides free legal aid to vulnerable & disadvantaged women and their children impacted by domestic and family violence (DFV) and sexual assault. With over 39 years experience, the specialist DFV team provides life changing and lifesaving support to women through a variety of services including:

  • Domestic violence
  • Family law matters
  • Safety planning and welfare support
  • Financial abuse assistance

WLSQ also plays an active role in community legal education, law reform and systems change. The provision of free legal help is an essential foundation for creating safer futures and breaking cycles of violence.

WLSQ SERVICES

Clients are able to access WLSQ services through a variety of avenues including the Statewide Helpline, Rural, Regional and Remote phone line, referrals from support services, domestic violence duty lawyer services and the extensive volunteer network.

  • Over 90% of women assisted by the WLSQ service are affected by domestic violence, have limited or no financial resources and experience multiple forms of disadvantage.
  • 77% of the women assisted have children in their care and 17% of clients are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
  • As Queensland’s only state-wide specialised community legal centre, 73% of clients reside outside of Brisbane.

BELGIAN AMBER ALE DONATION

Over the past few months we’ve had the pleasure of working closely with the WLSQ team to learn about those impacted by domestic violence. Supporting the areas below, we’re proud to see these funds supporting women in Queensland.

Extended Helpline Hours

Now open from 8am-4pm, these extended opening hours make it more accessible for women to access helpline services, particularly those navigating childcare & work commitments.

Phone Equipment Upgrades

With an upgraded phone system, WLSQ are now able to track when & where the volume of calls are coming from.

This important data assists in ensuring high volume periods have more helpline workers available to provide services.

Upgraded headsets allow the WLSQ team to provide an improved experience for clients. Designed to block out background noise, these headsets have been introduced to make clients feel more comfortable & safe when talking to a service provider.
